Vacaville Couple Allegedly Abused 9-Month-Old Son

VALLEJO (CBS/BCN) -- A Vacaville couple faces a preliminary hearing in Vallejo Wednesday for allegedly physically abusing their nine-month-old son.

Michael Louie Hernandez, 31, and his 38-year-old wife Colleen Lynn Hernandez are being held without bail in Solano County Jail.

Vacaville police arrested them Nov. 13 for attempted murder, child abuse and conspiracy. They also are charged with inflicting injury on a child, according to the Solano County jail's booking log.

The Hernandez couple has a history of reported child abuse and prior arrests involving their two older children, Vacaville police Sgt. Denise Quatman said.

Vacaville police went to the Kaiser Hospital emergency room Nov. 13 in response to a report that a nine-month-old child was being treated for serious head injuries.

The child had multiple skull fractures and was unresponsive, Quatman said.

The boy was transferred to the UC Davis Medical Center in Sacramento and was initially listed in critical condition, but was in stable condition in the Intensive Care Unit Thursday, Quatman said.

Police arrested the couple at their Monte Vista Avenue home after interviewing them. They were arraigned on the charges Tuesday.

Quatman said the Hernandezes were arrested in June for felony child endangerment of their three-year-old son. The boy also suffered head injuries, Quatman said.

The Hernandez couple also relinquished parental rights of their five-year-old son who has since been adopted, Quatman said.

Their preliminary hearing to determine if there is enough evidence against them is scheduled for 10 a.m. Wednesday but a readiness conference is scheduled for Tuesday morning.
