KCBS In Depth: University Of California Fee Hikes

SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS) -- It seems that no one is pleased with the latest vote by the University of California Regents to once again raise fees.

The regents will raise tuition by 8 percent, while also expanding financial aid for undergraduates and imposing higher fees on professional degree programs.

KCBS Interviews Darek DeFreece:

Darek DeFreece serves as a UC Regent and is also the Vice President of the Alumni Associations of the University of California.

He was one of five to vote against the recent fee hike and said it was a tough decision for the entire group.

DeFreece said that even with the state in financial crisis, California needs to provide more for the struggling university system.
