Santa Clara Turns Away Northern Colorado

SANTA CLARA (AP) -- Kevin Foster scored 19 points and Ray Cowels added 18 to lead Santa Clara past Northern Colorado 87-84 on Tuesday night.

Freshman Evan Roquemore added a season-best 18 points, including four free throws in the final 13 seconds, for the Broncos (4-1), who won their third straight.

Neal Kingman scored a career-high 21 points to lead the Bears (2-2), who lost back-to-back games for the first time since February 2009. Devon Beitzel added 20 points, Emmanuel Addo 12 and Chris Kaba 12.

The Bears drew within 77-76 on Beitzel's 3-pointer with 2:13 remaining, but Roquemore sank four free throws over the next minute to give the Broncos a cushion.

Addo gave Northern Colorado a 24-23 edge with 7:31 left in the first half.

Chris Cunningham responded with a pair of free throws and a layup to put Santa Clara ahead to stay.

The Broncos led at halftime 46-37.
