OAKLAND (BCN) – Three Oakland women who are roommates were sexually assaulted and robbed at gunpoint by two men early Saturday, police spokeswoman Holly Joshi said Tuesday.

A 26-year-old woman was walking home from the West Oakland BART station at about 12:30 a.m. Saturday when two men approached her near 11th and Market streets, Joshi said.

The men, one of whom had a gun, sexually assaulted the woman and then took her to an ATM and made her withdraw money to give to them, Joshi said.

They then forced her to take them to the apartment where she lives with two other women, one 30 and the other 29, according to Joshi.

The men then sexually assaulted and robbed the other two women, Joshi said. The ordeal didn’t end until 3:30 a.m., when the men left and the women called police, she said.

The women were treated at a local hospital and released, according to Joshi.

The two suspects are at large. Joshi said police don’t have a detailed description of them.

Oakland Police and Crime Stoppers are offering a reward of up to $30,000 for information leading to the arrest of the suspects.

People with information can call police investigators at (510) 238-3641 or Crime Stoppers at (510) 777-8572 or (510) 777-3211.

As the city budget continues to sacrifice public safety through police staffing cuts Oakland could think outside the box by arming its citizens with the weapons formerly carried by patrol officers. This would then free up the few remaining members of the force to handle administrative tasks exclusively while the public works/sanitation department would remove the bodies of the “alleged” criminals along with the rest of the trash on its daily rounds. why didnt u text ur roommates to have police meet u at the apartment

    1. HLS says:

Um… maybe because there was a gun pointed at her?

  3. Stoner says:

How about descriptions of the thugs? With journalism like this, no wonder why a lot of crimes are never solved. If you want the help of the public and most crimes are solved by tips from the public not the police, then you better start giving out descriptions of the suspects. ie: black males, late 20s early 30s, shaved head on one, corn rows on the other, med build about 5’10’ 180lbs, and the other slim build, two front gold teeth, 6’2′ 160lbs. This may help capture the criminals.

We only get a description if they are white

She went to an ATM, was there no camera on it? If the perps stayed “back” out of camera range, then why not text police while “getting money”? All 3 assaulted and robbed, and NONE of the three could give a “detailed” description? All were sexually assaulted, there was no DNA? West Oakland BART @ 12:30 am, why not just put a gun tower there and do us all a favor?

That’s why I always lock my door at night. I will dial 911 and be ready to press call if it’s a dangerous area or late at night and I’m alone. It’s because men have no respect for women if they see you alone.

    1. D says:

that’s pretty pollyannic don’t you think? who apparently assaulted you?

  6. Jamal says:

Let me guess: once the perps are caught and they will; I wil make a large wager that the criminals had a Long arrest record, outstanding warrants, were both registered sex offenders, and recently released “early” from prison due to the upcoming holidays. Thanks Arnold for your compassion but rememeber, you live up in the wealthy area of Pacific Palisades so you have no idea what it is to live in a bad neighborhood where crime is lurking just around the corner.

I too, find it deeply disturbing that no hint of a profile has been reported about the assailants. How is the public to help if there is no description; or is the Police solely relying on informants calling and a description from the assaulted women? I should think that putting the heat on these men by publishing their faces on the front page of every newspaper on the West Coast should signal the seriousness of this heinous crime. Why bother reporting this story if there’s no description of the perps?

  8. Joe says:

And no one in Oakland will protest about this…

(nformation is key! If this is indeed true, then how can this “reporter” call him/herself a true reporter?! I was never a journalism major in college, however, as an english major I did take a journalism class in which our instructor insisted we do our homework as much as possible. This meant TALKING TO PEOPLE! Only the officer is being repeatedly used as a source. Why weren’t the women asked questions, the other responding police officers, doctors, nurses, psychologists, etc.? Why was there no description given? Why was there no attempt to look at the area around the ATM, BART, her path home- all in an attempt to find people who might have information about these monsters?!

‘Very basic reporting equals very poor responces on the behalf of those who do read the article.”, She said…….

The editor should be sanctioned for not caring enough about the work to have the writer go back and rework and research the byline or he/she should have assigned it to someone else who would give it the time it needed!

Sounds like “we are oscar grant” was up to his old tricks again.

If I were the other two roommates, I’d definitely raise her rent…

  12. Krazzykenny says:

just for your information if you enter your 4 digit pin at the atm backwards, it will still withdraw money for you plus it will notify police. For example: if your atm pin number is 1234 and you punch in 4321, it will let you withdraw money while notifying the police.

  13. jimmie says:

Were these guys wearing masks or something? Neither of the 3 women could give any identifying information at all? Sounds strange

  14. Dmoney says:

Entering your pin backwards will not work. FYI. It’s been disproven by snopes. it is a lie.

  15. mdsu says:

Protester at Oscar Grant did it!

  16. T says:

Fear and terrior just take over I guess. I would hope I would have said no and never left with them alive or dead. At this point in my life I truly think I would have fought and probably been killed. What an awful story. People are just going nuts out there, putting bear cans around birds necks, breaking swans necks! Sorry but harmless animals always get to me…

  17. tn says:

That comes to about $10,000 reward per rape; less if the act were multiple times. Tough economic times. Now that this reporter investigated and reported the ages of the rape victims, when will cbs5.com make the rest of us aware of the ages / race(s) / description of the rapists? I think the public are more interested and concerned with the at-large rapists rather than the ages of the 3 roommates. And Oakland covers a large area- what vicinity did this occur? Criminals are laughing at these non-discript “blog news reports.” Bush league. Prayers to the victims and their families.
