Heavy Snowfall Lures Skiers To Sierra Slopes

RENO, Nev. (CBS/AP) -- Skiers and snowboarders are heading for the slopes in the Sierra Nevada to take advantage of what resorts are calling the best early-season skiing conditions in decades.

Resorts are reporting mid-winter conditions and some of the deepest base depths in the country after a string of storms dumped up to 10 feet of snow over the week leading up to Thanksgiving Day.

Boreal spokeswoman Tracy Brimmer says the parking lot of her resort atop Donner Summit is "completely full" and its slopes are "extremely busy" due to all the snow for a holiday weekend.

Eric Doyne is a spokesman for Ski Lake Tahoe, which represents the seven largest ski resorts around the lake.

He says all seven resorts are offering top-to-bottom skiing with most lifts open.
