Holiday Travel Moving Smoothly At San Francisco International Airport

SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS) _ San Francisco International Airport is expected to be busy throughout the day on Sunday as travelers return home at the end of their Thanksgiving holiday.

SFO spokesman Mike McCarron said they projected a four percent increase in travel compared with last year and that although the airport has been busy, for the most part, things have gone smoothly.

"It looks like another terrific day Sunday with people coming back," he said. "I haven't heard the forecast for the Northeast and Midwest, as that's always an issue at this time of the year. Hopefully the weather cooperates and everyone should get home this weekend."

There were concerns that protests over enhanced security measures could create long lines at the airport during one of the busiest travel periods of the year.

But McCarron said there were only about five or six people on hand protesting.

"The TSA is in a hard spot. They have to provide security for travelers, yet people don't want the intrusion. They are trying to find that balance," said McCarron. "I think they are working at it, but their number one goal is to make sure the aircrafts are safe."

Nearly one-and-a-quarter million people were expected to use San Francisco International Airport during the Thanksgiving travel period.
