San Francisco's St. Anthony Foundation Looks For Special Donations

SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS) - An organization in San Francisco is looking for a few good knitters.

The St. Anthony Foundation is hoping to collect thousands of homemade scarves to hand out to clients on Christmas Day.

More than a thousand have already been collected, but more are needed according to Francis Aviani with the St. Anthony Foundation.

KCBS' Margie Shafer Reports:

"To give a genuine gift from the heart to somebody that needs it to be warm during the holidays," Aviani said. "It's very functional, it's very practical."

Millie Devos dropped off a box of scarves that she had knit in memory of her son, who always had a soft spot for St. Anthony's and died when he was 23.

"It's been wonderful for me," she said.

The gifts will also be wonderful for the many people who turn up at St. Anthony's, in need of food, clothing, recovery help and medical care.

Each scarf will have a handwritten note attached and volunteers are being sought for that project.
