NEW YORK (CBS) - There’s no denying that Akon has one of the best jobs in the music business. The world’s busiest collaborator, Akon has been the ‘featured’ guest star of some of the hottest singles in the world over the past decade, including a string of hits like (to name just a sampling) Gwen Stefani‘s “Sweet Escape,” T-Pain‘s “Bartender” and “I Wanna Love You” with Snoop Dogg. His upcoming album is titled Akonic and promises to unleash a string of hits that may eclipse those earlier collaborations.
Akon finds himself in a “delicate” situation this week as he makes an appearance at the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show this Tuesday night on CBS and performs his new single, the appropriately-titled “Angel.” Watch CBS Street Date’s interview with Akon and find out what to expect when the models hit that runway (10pm ET, Tuesday 11/30 on CBS).
Hit play on the video below to watch Akon‘s visit to the Street Date studios. The world’s most popular rapper shares the inspiration behind his song “Angel,” tells us about a stack full of hot songs he’s got ready for the upcoming Akonic album, spills on working with icons like Michael Jackson, his (professional) relationship with Lady Gaga, and even takes time to mess around on our drum kit (dude is pretty good!). Also find out how he and David Guetta work so well together – it’s all inside.
As Akon mentions, there’s been lots of talk about him forming a rap supergroup with Nelly and T-Pain. Could it be true? Our recent interview with Nelly shed some light on this subject too, check that out. While we wait for these guys to make it official, we’ve got this video to use as a preview of what that supergroup might sound like. Here’s the video for their brand new collaboration “Move That Body” by Nelly featuring T-Pain and Akon. Enjoy!
