Athletics Agree With Sweeney On 1-Year Deal

OAKLAND (AP) - The Oakland Athletics have agreed to a one-year deal with outfielder Ryan Sweeney.

The A's announced the deal Friday. Sweeney hit .294 with one homer and 36 RBIs in 82 games last season before being sidelined in July by a right knee injury.

Sweeney is expected to be a starting corner outfielder next season, although he could switch from right field to left to accommodate recently acquired David DeJesus.

Sweeney has gone 117 games without committing an error. That's the sixth longest streak ever by an Oakland outfielder.

Pitchers Dallas Braden, Craig Breslow, Brad Ziegler and Joey Devine; outfielder Conor Jackson and third baseman Kevin Kouzmanoff are the remaining A's eligible for salary arbitration.
