Father Arrested For Death Of Oakland Baby

OAKLAND (BCN) - A 26-year-old Oakland man has been arrested on suspicion of child abuse in connection with the death of his infant son, Oakland police spokesman Jeff Thomason said.

The 4-month-old boy was taken to a hospital on Nov. 28, Oakland police spokesman Jeff Thomason said. The parents said they had found the child unconscious.

The next morning, on Nov. 29, police began an investigation into the possibility that the boy, who lived in the 1600 block of Sixth Avenue, was the victim of child abuse, Thomason said.

The infant remained in the hospital for a week but died at 2:10 a.m. Sunday, Thomason said.

Thomason said the investigation indicated that the child was in the care of his father when he suffered his injures.

He said the case is being treated as a homicide. Anyone with information is asked to call the homicide section at (510) 238-3821.
