Joe Montana Pitches Project Near Planned 49ers Stadium

SANTA CLARA (AP) — Former 49ers legend Joe Montana and ex-owner Eddie DeBartolo Jr. are teaming up for a new business venture.

Montana, DeBartolo and developer Kurt Wittek want to build a luxury hotel, sports bar and entertainment complex next to the 68,500-seat stadium the team hopes to build in Santa Clara.

The three business partners have been meeting with Santa Clara officials and last week requested an 18-month exclusive negotiating agreement to complete a deal.

City officials said Sunday the Santa Clara City Council won’t take any action until after the new year, but the proposal appears to have significant support on the council.

Santa Clara has had a long-standing plan to develop land around the stadium site as an entertainment district.
