(KCBS) – KCBS Food and Wine Editor Narsai David reviews a 2009 Chardonnay from Stuhlmuller Vineyards in Healdsburg’s Alexander Valley and a 2009 Zinfandel from the Mendocino County vineyards of Artezin Wines.
The Stuhlmuller Chardonnay has a pale straw color with a lovely, citrusy aroma that leads to a fruity, delicious mouthful of wine. Plenty of fruit, but nice substance, too. Good acid for balance leaves the mouth watering with a fine aftertaste. It’s a medium light wine on the palate, so it will be fine as a sipping wine by itself or with light fish dishes. ($24.00)
The Artezin Zinfandel has a rich red color with distinct raspberry aromas and lots of fruit, right up front. Lush, plummy flavors roll over the tongue and linger to balance the soft tannins. Soft, but plentiful, for a flavor that’s very appealing. Here’s a wine for a rich meat pizza or BBQ ribs. ($18.00)
