BART Phases Out EZ Rider Card

OAKLAND (KCBS) _ Many BART riders were forced to switch commuter cards on Wednesday, as the transit system began to phase out its EZ Rider card for fare payments.

As many as 50,000 commuters used the EZ Rider card at its peak. Now passengers are joining many other transit systems in the Bay Area by switching over to the Clipper card.

KCBS' Bob Melrose Reports:

"You can use the Clipper card on Muni, on BART, on AC Transit, Golden Gate Ferry," said BART spokesman Linton Johnson. "I believe it's the goal sometime in the future to have Clipper for all 26 Bay Area transit systems."

At the Orinda BART Station on Wednesday, there was some confusion over whether to use EZ Rider or Clipper for parking.

Johnson said EZ Rider can still be used for parking.

The phaseout will be final on December 22.
