Martinez Day Care Provider Convicted Of Child Molestation

MARTINEZ (AP) -- A day care provider in Martinez has been convicted of molesting two girls under his care.

A jury deliberated for a little more than an hour on Thursday before finding 56-year-old James Jensen guilty of 14 felony counts of child molestation.

Prosecutors say the victims were 8 and 10 years old when Jensen began molesting them at Dawn's Day Care, which he ran out of his home. They say the molestation lasted two years for one victim and three years for the other before Jensen's arrest in 2008.

The trial was staffed with extra security after authorities suspected Jensen tried to hire someone to kill the prosecutor. An investigation turned up no evidence of the alleged plot, and Jensen was never charged.

He faces up to 210 years to life when sentenced.
