Beautification Project Well Received In San Jose

SAN JOSE (KCBS) - Downtown San Jose is getting high marks for cleanliness, meaning that a street beautification campaign is paying off.

Greg Casella, who owns a downtown catering business tells KCBS that he had noticed a huge improvement since the program launched almost three years ago.

KCBS' Mike Colgan Reports:

"It's especially different from a few years ago when there were all these fliers; you'd come in on Monday and the streets would be filled with fliers from clubs," said Casella. "But now it's all gone."

Retailers and businesses are paying about $2 million each year on the beautification project.

"Who doesn't love flowers and cleaner streets?" said Downtown Association Executive Director Scott Knies. "People come up and tell the ambassadors all the time what a great job they're doing, or interrupt our workers as they're pressure washing the streets to tell them how much they appreciate the job that they're doing."
