Daily Madden: The Coaching Carousel

(KCBS) – John Madden discusses the dismissal of Tom Cable as head coach of the Raiders and his popularity with the players. How does a coach earn the players’ respect?

With Raiders offensive coordinator Hue Jackson a candidate for the head coaching position, John says it’s hard to project how well a new coach will do when he’s had no experience in the top job.

Stanford coach Jim Harbaugh will be in high demand with all of the NFL openings, but John asks if the timing is right. With labor tensions and a possible lockout on the horizon, a new coach could find himself without assistants and without a team.

If Harbaugh plans on staying at Stanford, John says he needs to say so now or risk hurting the Cardinal recruitment effort. (8:30)
