Teen Girl Drives Recklessly Through Downtown San Francisco

SAN FRANCISCO (BCN) — A 16-year-old girl was pulled over Wednesday afternoon after driving recklessly through downtown San Francisco, police said.

Police saw the girl speeding north in a Volvo on Kearny Street near Pine Street at 12:58 p.m., San Francisco police Lt. Lyn Tomioka said.

She then turned onto Pine Street and drove against traffic, and was stopped by police at Third and Market streets, where she was taken into custody, Tomioka said.

“She appeared to be a danger to herself and others because of the way she was driving,” Tomioka said.

The girl, a North Bay resident, may have crashed into one other car during the chase, Tomioka said. Police have been unable to reach the witness that reported the hit-and-run.

The girl had a dachshund in her car that is now in the custody of San Francisco Animal Care and Control, Tomioka said.

Tomioka said the girl may face criminal charges and is undergoing a mental evaluation. Police are still investigating the case.
