(KCBS) – John Madden praises Stanford QB Andrew Luck for his decision to stay in school, and suggests Peyton Manning may have offered him advice.

Madden says the best of the wild card games will be the Packers vs. the Eagles and the Jets vs. the Colts. Of the teams playing this weekend, he says the Saints, Eagles and Packers have the best chance of playing in the Super Bowl.

John doesn’t like the change in the sudden death rule, which lets a team get the ball back when their opponent only scores three points, saying it takes some excitement out of overtime. He analyzes how strategy will change with the new rule.

And special guest Tony La Russa discusses his “ARF” season, and offers his thoughts on Michael Vick’s return to prominence after serving time for animal cruelty. (9:35)
