San Francisco Board Of Supervisors Welcome 4 New Members

SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS) - Four new members of the San Francisco Board of Supervisors take the oath of office Saturday.

In a historic vote on Friday, outgoing supervisors also selected the City's first Asian American mayor.

City Administrator Ed Lee takes the job on an interim basis, for 10-months after Mayor Gavin Newsom moves on to his new Lieutenant Governor's post in Sacramento.

The new supervisors include Malia Cohen, Scott Wiener, Jane Kim and Mark Farrell.

Outgoing Supervisor Michela Alioto Pier says the temporary nature of the job won't mean a lot day to day.

KCBS' Tim Ryan Reports:

"One thing that I will say that I don't think most people realize until they work in City Hall, the job is a daunting one and the job for mayor is going to be an extremely daunting one," Alioto Pier said.

The vote was 10 to 1 with outgoing maverick Chris Daly casting the lone vote against Lee. The new Board of Supervisors must vote again on Tuesday, as a formality.

Lee has been traveling abroad, but is expected back in San Francisco, possibly as early as Sunday.
