CHP Officer Kills Fresno County Stolen Vehicle Suspect

FRESNO (CBS/AP) -- A California Highway Patrol officer shot and killed the suspect in a dump truck theft during a struggle with the man, according to the CHP.

CHP officers responded Thursday morning to a report from a business owner that a dump truck had been stolen near the town of Malaga in Fresno County.

According to the CHP, an officer tracked the dump truck to a citrus grove, and as he checked the vehicle, the suspect reportedly emerged from the trees and a fight began. During the brief struggle, the officer pulled his handgun and shot the suspect.

The CHP says the officer sustained moderate injuries.

Authorities have released the identities of neither the officer nor the suspect.
