Concord DUI Suspect Crashes Patrol Car Trying To Flee

CONCORD (CBS/BCN) -- A man was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence and crashing into a police patrol car in Concord and then trying to flee the scene early Saturday morning, a police sergeant said.

Aaron Grays, 21, was arrested following the crash, which happened shortly after midnight when an officer was responding to a report of a fight at the Dana Plaza Shopping Center on Concord Boulevard, police Sgt. Matt Morrissey said.

As the officer was arriving at the shopping center, a Buick Century collided with the passenger side of his patrol car, Morrissey said.

The officer stopped, said "Stay right there" to Grays, the driver of the Buick, then continued toward the fight, Morrissey said.

Shortly afterward, the officer looked back and saw the Buick driving away on Concord Boulevard. The officer got on his police radio and alerted other officers about the car's whereabouts, and Grays was arrested a short distance away, he said.

Grays was determined to be under the influence of alcohol and was booked into jail on suspicion of DUI and hit-and-run, Morrissey said.

Grays was not involved in the fight, which was quickly broken up, according to Morrissey.
