Santa Rosa Transient Suspected Of Vandalizing 62 County Vehicles
SANTA ROSA (BCN) -- A man suspected of smashing the windows of dozens of county vehicles in Dec. 2009 was identified by the California Department of Justice Thursday, the Santa Rosa Police Department said.
Alan Snowden, who Santa Rosa police said is a 59-year-old Santa Rosa transient, allegedly used rocks and slabs of concrete to smash the windows of 62 county vehicles parked at the Sonoma County Center at 2300 County Center Dr. on Dec. 23, 2009.
The vandalisms resulted in over $40,000 in damage, according to police.
During the investigation, police said that blood evidence was gathered from several of the damaged vehicles and rocks littering the crime scene.
After the blood was submitted to the Department of Justice for evaluation, officials announced Thursday that the DNA profile matched Snowden's.
Police discovered that Snowden was already in custody at the Sonoma County Jail for an unrelated vandalism charge and is now serving a six-month sentence for vandalizing a Santa Rosa business in October.
Detectives then charged Snowden with felony vandalism associated with the incident at the County Center.
The Sonoma County District Attorney's Office is still reviewing the case to determine how many counts of vandalism Snowden will ultimately be charged with, police said.
