Driver Sought In Concord Hit & Run Turns Himself In

CONCORD (KCBS) – The search is over for the second driver involved in a fatal hit-and-run crash involving a homeless woman and her dog in Concord Sunday night.

Concord Police Lieutenant Darrell Graham said 21-year-old Robert Summers surrendered to police after hearing media reports about the accident.

But Summers disputes another witness' claim that he struck 53-year-old Sheree Lindborg on Sunday.

Police said he left the crime scene after Lindborg was struck on Solano Way.

"He originally stopped because he did feel that he had hit something or may have hit something," Graham said. "But he thought that was the dog he had hit and didn't realize he had hit a pedestrian."

KCBS' Dave Padilla Reports:

Summers was arrested and released on felony hit-and-run charges. Both the victim and her dog were hit by Summers, then by a 17-year-old driver, who police said tried to help the victim.

Homeless advocate John Coward said he knew Lindborg, but didn't realize she was the victim.

"Right out in front of the house. Right in front of Solano and Avon. I live on the corner of Solano and Avon and she was hit right there," said Coward.

Coward said Lindborg used to get bag lunches from him at nearby Hillcrest Community Park. A memorial is planned for this Saturday to honor the 52 year old.
