Threat Of Violence Scares Some UC Santa Cruz Students From Class

SANTA CRUZ (KCBS) – UC Santa Cruz officials have called for additional law enforcement officers on campus Tuesday. This comes after someone wrote graffiti threatening a violent attack.

KCBS' Betsy Gebhart Reports:

The graffiti was discovered back in December in a men's bathroom in the Social Sciences Two building. It mentioned January 18th as the day the violence would be carried out.

So far nothing out of the ordinary has happened, but several students told KCBS that they had classes that were canceled.

"My professor Mr. Griggs, for oceanography, said that we take risks every day, and this day is no different," said Eric Sprucker, freshman physics major. "He said we've got to live life and not live in fear, so I had class as usual, even though half the class was gone."

School officials suggest that everyone be observant, move around campus in groups and sign up for CruzAlert, the campus's emergency notification system that will send bulletins to cell phones.
