Husband Of Sonoma County Supervisor Found Dead

SANTA ROSA (BCN) -- Peter Kingston, the director of finance at Ursuline High School in Santa Rosa and the husband of Sonoma County Supervisor Shirlee Zane, hanged himself in the backyard of his home Tuesday, Sonoma County Sheriff Steve Freitas said Wednesday afternoon.

The preliminary cause of death is hanging, but the results of routine toxicology tests will be available in two to four weeks, Freitas said.

Freitas said a relative called Santa Rosa police after discovering Kingston's body. Police called the coroner's office at 4:45 p.m., Freitas said. The couple has three adult children.

Kingston, 56, was the finance director of the private, all-girls Catholic high school in Santa Rosa. School officials announced last fall the school would close at the end of the current school year because of financial difficulties.

Julie Carver, president and principal of the school, said that to subsidize the 2010-2011 school year, the Ursuline sisters had to commit $1.2 million from restricted funds from their ministry and from their retirement funds.

Officials at the nearby all-boys Cardinal Newman High School invited the Ursuline students to attend their school after it was announced Ursuline High School was closing.
