Surprise Windstorm Takes Out Trees In East Bay

BERKELEY (KCBS) — Heavy winds have brought down tree branches and caused power outages in parts of the East Bay Thursday morning, with gusts up to 50 miles per hour reported.

The high wind advisory in the area was expected to end at 10 a.m.

KCBS' Margie Shafer Reports:

"Oh I think it's great," said one Berkeley man. "I love it! That's what people call me sometimes is 'The Wind,' because I ride my bike out in it, I just love it."

The wind brought down a large tree on westbound 580 near Fruitvale in Oakland during the morning commute, blocking two lanes of traffic for more than an hour and a half.

No one was hurt.

At the peak of the storm 900 PG&E customers were without power.
