Woman Critically Hurt In San Francisco Streetcar Accident

SAN FRANCISCO (BCN) - A woman suffered life-threatening injuries when she either fell under or was struck by a San Francisco Municipal Railway light-rail vehicle on Thursday afternoon in the city's Mount Davidson Manor neighborhood, authorities said Friday.

Shortly after 3:10 p.m. Thursday, police responded to a report of a woman lying on the ground under a Muni streetcar at the intersection of Ocean Avenue and West Gate Drive, San Francisco police Officer Albie Esparza said.

The woman, who is in her 60s, was taken to San Francisco General Hospital to be treated for injuries that were considered to be life-threatening as of Thursday night, Esparza said.

The Muni vehicle was on the K/T-Ingleside/Third line, and agency officials were continuing to investigate the incident Friday morning, spokesman Paul Rose said.

Authorities do not know whether the woman was struck by the streetcar or if she fell underneath it while trying to run across the street.

"We have a lot of witnesses we're interviewing, including the driver," Esparza said.

Police are encouraging anyone who may have witnessed the incident to call (415) 575-4444 or text information to TIP411.
