Porpoises Returning To Marin Waters

SAUSALITO (CBS/KCBS) -- For the first time in six decades, harbor porpoises are returning to the bay waters off Marin.

"This shows there's actually some positive news for San Francisco Bay," said Bill Keener, a researcher with the Golden Gate Cetacean Research Center, who says we're talking about an animal at the top of its food web, finding plenty to feed on. Keener said porpoises are spotted in the Bay every day.

KCBS' Janice Wright Reports:

Like they were until World War II when an anti-submarine net was put in place across the Golden Gate. Keener said along with this barrier, there was pollution and shipping traffic.

Keener said that now, along with people trying to clean up pollution, the Pacific waters have changed over the years, which can help life thrive.
