Novato Man Arrested For Contacting Child Victim Of Lewd Acts

SAN RAFAEL (BCN) - A Novato man who was charged with committing lewd acts on an underage girl in September was arrested Friday on suspicion of contacting the alleged victim, San Rafael police said.

Darin Toshiro Kawamoto, 21, was arrested on Sept. 19 after police allegedly found him in the bedroom of a 12-year-old Terra Linda girl.

He posted bail that day and was facing prosecution for allegedly committing lewd acts with a child and illegal entry with the intent to annoy a child, San Rafael police Sgt. Raul Aguilar said.

Kawamoto was prohibited from contacting the girl and ordered to stay away from her residence and school, Aguilar said.

Several days before his scheduled preliminary hearing, Kawamoto allegedly sent an email to the victim and continued sending emails containing facts only he and the victim would know, Aguilar said.

Kawamoto asked the alleged victim to meet him in a secluded area of Marinwood, and on Friday police conducted surveillance of the area, Aguilar said. Kawamoto was arrested when he arrived there at 7 a.m., Aguilar said.

He was booked into the Marin County jail for attempting to dissuade a witness, annoying a child under age 18, and disobeying a court order. His bail is $1 million, and his preliminary hearing is now scheduled for Feb. 9.
