Few Answers In San Jose Police Shooting Of Knife-Wielding Man

SAN JOSE (BCN) - Authorities were continuing to investigate an officer-involved shooting on Tuesday in which a knife-wielding man was killed on a property in unincorporated Santa Clara County outside of San Jose.

Dozens of police officers and sheriff's deputies responded to a home in the 4000 block of Higuera Road early Tuesday afternoon.

"The police came at about 12:30 p.m. and didn't leave until after 6:50 p.m., when we left for a meeting," said Ardell Johnson, who lives on an adjacent property.

Officers had initially responded to reports of a suspicious male with a knife, according to the sheriff's office.

Johnson said authorities used his driveway to get to a dry creek bed on his neighbor's property because getting there required navigating "kind of a hilly, hard-to-reach area."

During a confrontation in the creek bed, a San Jose police officer fired multiple shots at the suspect, Santa Clara County sheriff's spokesman Sgt. Rick Sung said.

The suspect was pronounced dead at the scene, Sung said. His name was still withheld as of this morning.

No other injuries were reported, and few details about the confrontation have been released.
