Dozens Of Pit Bull Dogs Rescued From Oakland Home Squalor

OAKLAND (CBS 5 / AP) -- Dozens of pit bulls have been rescued from a squalid two-bedroom Oakland home caked with dog feces and reeking of urine and decay.

Police said 33 pit bulls, many emaciated with skin stained yellow from urine, were discovered in crates stacked inside the home on Capistrano Drive.

Several dogs had to be euthanized and animal care officers were looking to find homes for dogs nursed back to health.

OPD Officer Sarah Whitmeyer, who participated in the December raid, said they found the bloody and terrified pit bulls in a home owned by 68-year-old Arthey Yancey.

The dogs had dug holes in excrement to lie down.

Yancey has been charged in Alameda County Superior Court with felony animal cruelty.
