Oakland 1-Year-Old Hit, Killed By Car

OAKLAND (BCN) – A driver backing into a driveway struck and killed a 1-year-old girl in Oakland Wednesday night, a police spokeswoman said.

The baby was killed at about 9 p.m. Wednesday night outside her home in the 1100 block of 78th Avenue in East Oakland, police Officer Holly Joshi said.

A 34-year-old Oakland resident was backing into a driveway and collided with the girl, Joshi said. The driver was not injured and alcohol is not considered a factor in the crash, she said.

The baby girl was taken to Children’s Hospital in Oakland where she was pronounced dead, according to Joshi.

The girl’s organs are being donated.

Joshi said the incident is still under investigation and anyone with information about it should call Officer Michael Cardoza at (510) 777-8648.

Wow, I could not imagine losing my baby especially like that, my prayers go out to the family. May she live through the children using her organs.

A one year old in the street @ 9 at night? Tragic, there is obviously more to this story than meets the eye. But why? It is a blessing her organs can be donated to save another life, but why was she in the street @ 9 pm? (maybe a driveway?) My 3.5 y.o goes to bed @ 7:30 pm!
The poor family. My condolences on a tragic accident.
