Richmond Man Arrested For Drug Posession, Gun Cache

RICHMOND (BCN) - Police on Thursday identified a man who was arrested Wednesday night when a search allegedly revealed several firearms and illegal drugs in his Richmond home, a spokeswoman said.

Cornelius Savage, 39, was arrested after police issued a search warrant at his home on the 2300 block of San Joaquin Street around 8 p.m., police Sgt. Bisa French said.

The search revealed 18 firearms, including assault rifles, two AK-47 rifles, handguns, and an M16 rifle, among others, French said.

In addition, police found a kilo of cocaine, a half-pound of methamphetamine, a small amount of ecstasy, and a small amount of marijuana, police said.

Police also recovered $2,000 in cash, which officers believe was made from selling firearms or drugs, French said.

Savage had an extensive criminal history of undisclosed charges. The search warrant for his home was part of an ongoing criminal investigation, French said.

He was booked in Richmond City Jail and faces charges of felony possession of firearms and possession of drugs. He was later transferred to county jail in Martinez, French said.

Police initially said Savage was on parole, but French said that he was neither on parole nor probation at the time of the arrest. The error was likely made due to his criminal history, she said.
