Budget Cuts Force Reorganization For San Mateo County Courts
SAN MATEO (BCN) -- Budget cuts have forced the San Mateo County Superior Court to stop accepting court papers for family law, civil, or probate cases in its South San Francisco courthouse, according to officials.
The courthouse announced that its two-person family law and probate office in South San Francisco will be closed and anyone filing relevant documents will be redirected to the Redwood City courthouse.
The closure helps the court to "better manage filings, balance workload and shift staff into other divisions in need of additional support," according to a statement.
No staff will lose their jobs in the closure, according to the court.
The shut down is just one of the court's numerous budget-cutting programs implemented over the past several years. Since 2007, court staff has been reduced by more than 20 percent, and fees for processing papers have been raised.
The court has "reduced spending in order to absorb these ongoing budget cuts," former Presiding Judge Stephen Hall said in a statement.
