Helicopter Rescue Forces Closure Of Hwy. 1 In San Mateo County
PESCADERO BEACH (CBS/BCN) -- Traffic was being controlled through one open lane on state Highway 1 in San Mateo County following a helicopter rescue, according to the California Highway Patrol.
Crews responded to a witness sighting of a vehicle about 100 yards over a cliff near state Highway 1 and Pescadero Beach at about 3 p.m., CHP Officer Eric Anderson said.
The highway was closed down in both directions at 3:40 p.m. while a helicopter landed and rescued the unidentified person for treatment, Anderson said.
One lane was reopened at about 4 p.m. after the helicopter took off, and the CHP assisted in traffic control.
The CHP estimated all lanes would reopen at 5:30 p.m., but an investigation and towing the vehicle forced officers to continue controlling traffic through one lane, an officer said.
There was no estimated time of reopening the highway as of 5:45 p.m.
