Tour Of California Race Stage To End In San Jose Hills

SAN JOSE (KCBS) – Specific route details have been announced for this year's Amgen Tour of California.

Stage 4 of the cycling race will have a different finish, ending in the hills of San Jose.

In the past, the San Jose stage has ended downtown in front of City Hall. But this year's stop will feature the race's first-ever mountaintop finish on Sierra Road.

"This is a big hill. It's 3.5 miles long. But on top of that, it is 10 percent grades in certain sections," said Kerry Adams Hapner, San Jose's Director of Cultural Affairs. "That is incredibly steep."

KCBS' Mike Colgan Reports:

Adams Hapner, who herself is a triathlete, said the 81-mile portion of the race from Livermore should have a fantastic finish.

"The best cyclist is going to finish first, the strongest cyclist and the best climber," she said.

Stage 4 of the Amgen Tour of California is scheduled for May 18.
