Jan Wahl Movie Review: 'Just Go With It'

(KCBS) - KCBS Entertainment Editor Jan Wahl reviews the romantic comedy starring Adam Sandler and Jennifer Aniston. Plus, Cedar Rapids starring Ed Helms.

JUST GO WITH IT (PG-13)

Romantic comedies used to be good for both men and women. But Mainstream Hollywood has now discovered that it is easier and a sure thing for profit internationally to make comedies about obnoxious, arrogant middle aged guys getting a great deal of sex from hot girls and ending up winners. Guys feel great, there's graphic looks at sexy girls, and women find a movie they can get a guy to go to. Internationally, it plays since it is non cerebral, graphic and keeps women in their place. This movie was once a French farce, then a Broadway show and movie called Cactus Flower..now dumbed down to star Adam Sandler as a wealthy Beverly Hills plastic surgeon who falls for a hot girl, his nurse Jennifer Aniston helping him woo the girl by posing as his wife. Bizarre lies, scatological humor, some surprise cameos, a date movie in time for Valentine's Day marketed in every movie theater on the planet. One half of a hat for some lovely views of Hawaii.

CEDAR RAPIDS (R)

Sometimes the man-child so popular in romantic comedies now is sweet and likable. That would be Ed Helms as a small town insurance agent..never been on a plane or out of his Wisconson town..who finds himself at an industry convention at an Iowa city. Suddenly his world gets diverse, interesting, colorful. John C. Reilly, Anne Heche, Isiah Whitlock, Jr, Sigourney Weaver all turn in supporting characters that will remind you of a very good TV comedy ensemble. It's fun, sometimes sharp satire, worth your time and money. Three hats.
