ConsumerWatch: Beware Of Costly Dating Sites
SAN FRANCISCO (CBS 5) – There are a host of online dating sites that promise to find your perfect match for a price, but there are some things to consider before you pull out that credit card.
When Jean Taylor saw a match making advertisement, she gave it a try.
“They were supposed to present someone to you that met all your criteria,” she said. Taylor said the company called Elite Personal Search guaranteed her three dates for $1,000. If she wanted to continue her search she’d have to pay more. But after three years, Taylor hasn’t found a match.
She contacted ConsumerWatch, and we noticed a number of online complaints. We then contacted Elite Personal Search where the new CEO Louis Felix tells us changed new ownership January 2009. Felix also added that most of the complaints were due to the previous ownership. Felix does point those looking for must be realistic.
“At the end of the day, when it comes to matters of the heart, we need to find someone that is age appropriate, looking for the same type of relationship that you’re looking for,” he said.
When it comes to Taylor’s case, Elite Personal Search has agreed to continue searching and refund her half the amount. But her advice for other hopeless romantics is to look for other alternatives.
“If you got to pay an astronomical amount of money don’t do it,” Taylor said. “Use the more economical ones on the internet or like, I said, go on a cruise.”
