Windy Storm Causes Bay Area Accidents, Outages
SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS) - A powerful storm bringing strong winds and heavy rain left thousands of people without power overnight in the Bay Area. More storm systems were poised to pass through in the coming days in between widespread lingering showers, according to meteorologists.
Unstable conditions provoked scattered showers punctuated by periods of hail across parts of the Bay Area Wednesday.

The 280 transition to 101 in San Francisco was closed for hours Wednesday morning after a box truck slammed into a low-hanging sign, knocking it into the roadway. The CHP said strong winds dislodged the sign slightly before the truck hit it.

The high winds were expected to die down, but the high surf was expected to continue through the day Wednesday. Coupled with an unusually high 6.6 tide at the Golden Gate, the wet weather could be cause for flooding.
Traffic along the Great Highway in San Francisco was disrupted Wednesday morning because of flooding and standing water. Standing water also slowed traffic along the Doyle Drive construction in San Francisco.
At the peak of the storm 4,000 people were without power. Nearly 1,500 customers across the Bay Area remained offline into Wednesday afternoon, mostly in San Francisco and the East Bay.
