Mayor Lee Closely Watches San Francisco Crime Trends
SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS)- A special guest showed up at the monthly review of San Francisco crime trends Thursday. Mayor Ed Lee did something that his predecessor Gavin Newsom never did, and showed up at a so-called "CompStat" meeting, which discusses which crimes are happening, and where. Lee said he wanted to know where resources should be allocated.
KCBS' Bob Melrose Reports:
"Through this statistical approach that all major cities are using we're not only able to track trends, but it also allows us to have a more confident foundation to discuss crime reduction strategies," said Lee. "And as I'm looking at the budget I can actually have a basis on which to determine some decisions on the public safety budget."
Lee said that he was disturbed by the number of property crimes taking place, but believes it is a product of economic times.
