SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS)- It’s President’s Day and John Madden is off. Since UCLA played Cal Sunday night, we revisit John’s tribute to the late “Wizard of Westwood” John Wooden from last June 7th.

He’s described as a coach to the coaches and an icon in basketball by Madden. John Wooden was looked up to in the sports world. Madden said his football coach hero was Vince Lombardi, but when it came to coaching in general, Wooden had an influence on just about everyone.

The Daily Madden:

Madden remembers Wooden’s strategy and how he wouldn’t talk about his opponents on a personal level, but rather would anticipate what they would actually do during the game.

Madden said Wooden’s tactics may have seemed simple, but in the complicated and increasingly technological world of sports, it’s easy to get distracted from what is basic.
