Daily Madden: Notes From The Combine

(KCBS) - Back home from his trip to the NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis, John Madden warns not to make too much of the performances of players in the drills.

Yes, he says, Auburn QB and Heisman Trophy winner Cam Newton had trouble with an awkward throwing drill, but so did all the quarterbacks. John says everything else about Newton was impressive, and his draft standing shouldn't be affected.

John says the most important part of the Combine is the player's physical, which you don't see on the NFL Network coverage. The Combine drills and tests, says Madden, should play a small role in measuring an athlete's NFL potential; how he plays the game is the key. (8:25)
