SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — San Francisco International Airport is set to evict all charities soliciting donations on airport property.

The commission that manages the airport was expected to pass a panhandling ban at its meeting Tuesday. It would take effect in April.

Until now, airport officials have limited solicitors to two “free speech” booths inside two terminals. An airport spokesman said charities still will be allowed to preach there so long as they obtain a permit and follow guidelines.

A commission memo indicated more than 100 passengers have complained about overly aggressive solicitations in recent years.

Last year, the California Supreme Court ruled that airports can bar such practices after the Hare Krishnas sued Los Angeles over its ban on airport solicitations. That case is now in federal court.
