Central Valley Woman Survives Wild Ride On Minivan Hood

MANTECA (CBS 5) – A Manteca man is accused of attempted murder after authorities say he drove his minivan with his wife on the hood for more than 40 miles.

According to police, Christopher Carroll and his wife were arguing Friday night at the couple's home. Carroll's wife tried to stop him from driving away by climbing onto the van. But she was forced to hold onto the van's windshield wipers and mirror as he drove off.

Witnesses told police Carroll drove recklessly from Manteca, through the Altamont Pass, into Pleasanton, at times driving at more than 100 miles per hour.

According to his wife, Carroll was on methamphetamine at the time.

The woman was able to let go when the van exited Interstate 580 at Santa Rita Road. She was hospitalized for hypothermia and severe scratches to her face.

Police found Carroll at the couple's home and arrested him without incident.
