Sunnyvale Named A Mecca For Nerdy Singles

SUNNYVALE (KCBS) -- The Bay Area, as it turns out, is quite the hot spot for nerd love. Sunnyvale, in fact is rated number one in the country by Match.com for nerds to find love.

KCBS' Mike Colgan Reports:

"Being number one means that the odds of a woman who wants to date a nerd are very good, but that means that the odds for a nerd are actually not that good because there are a whole lot of us," said software engineer Jim Griffiths, who identifies himself as a nerd.

Sunnyvale spokesman John Pilger points out that the city, which is home to Yahoo and other high-tech companies, was ranked the second smartest in the country because of the number of registered patents.

"There is so much technology that is born here and developed here," said Pilger. "The future comes from the people here that we proudly call our nerds, who were born and bred here in Sunnyvale."

Santa Clara came in fifth and Berkeley came in fourth in the Match.com survey.
