6 Hurt In SF Muni Streetcar Crash With Big-Rig Truck

SAN FRANCISCO (CBS 5) -- A half-dozen passengers were injured Monday when a San Francisco Municipal Railway streetcar collided with a semi-truck in the city's Dogpatch neighborhood, fire officials told CBS 5.

The collision involving the streetcar and big-rig occured at the intersection of Third Street and 23rd Street around 10:30 a.m.

The big-rig apparently crashed into the Muni streetcar, causing
minor injuries to the six people on board, including a passenger confined to a wheelchair, SFFD Lt. Mindy Talmadge said.

The injured were treated at the scene and then taken to hospitals for evaluation, she added.

The streetcar involved in the crash was on the KT-Ingleside/Third Street light-rail vehicle line.

Muni spokesman Paul Rose said the truck hit the streetcar on its right side, toward the front of the vehicle. Witnesses said the truck, with a flatbed trailer, T-boned the Muni vehicle.
