Power Outage Hits 27,000 Berkeley Homes, Slows BART
BERKELEY (CBS SF) - A power outage left about 27,000 Berkeley PG&E customers without electricity Tuesday, and disrupted service to a pair of Bay Area Rapid Transit stations.
Shortly before 11:15am, an outage was reported impacting downtown Berkeley, and areas from Martin Luther King Junior Way East to Fulton Street, and between Cedar street and Bancroft Way.
The area from University Avenue south to Bancroft Way was also in the dark between Martin Luther King Jr. Way and Shattuck Avenue.
Another area north of the university campus, from Hearst Avenue to Le Conte Avenue, was also impacted between Oxford Street and Highland Place
BART trains were not stopping at the downtown and north Berkeley stations because of the outages, a BART spokesman said.
It's unclear what caused the outages, BART spokesman Jim Allison said.
A BART dispatcher said trains going through the area were delayed by about 10 minutes because of the closures.
