ConsumerWatch: App Gives Hotel Guests A Sneak Peek At Rooms

SUNNYVALE (CBS 5) -- A new web site and iPhone app is helping travelers get a peek at the view from their hotel room before they check in.

Room 77, a Sunnyvale- based company, lets travelers see the actual view from each room using 3D technology and Google Earth for more then 425,000 hotel rooms nationwide.

"We draw every floor in the hotel in our software then we take that drawing and we fit it onto a Google map," said Kevin Fliess, General Manager and VP of Product for Room 77. Fliess said the technology gives travelers a bird's eye view from every room.

Room 77 also provides information on room dimensions, square footage and distance from the elevator or ice machine. It even offers details about the type of bed or if the room is non-smoking or smoking.

Currently, Room 77 has 500 hotels in its database and it now only includes 3 to 5 star hotels. According to Fliess, Room 77 hopes to eventually have 5000 hotels in its data base and offer the ability to reserve a room from its web site or iPhone app for an additional fee.
