Santa Clara Moves Forward With Stadium Money Plan

SANTA CLARA (AP/KCBS) - In a move that was not unexpected, the Santa Clara City Council is moving forward with its proposal to give upwards of $4 million for a new football stadium to the 49ers to possibly keep it from state officials.

The City Council voted 5-to-2 in favor of the proposal on Monday. The money is part of up to $40 million in redevelopment funds the city has committed to the 49ers' planned stadium in Santa Clara.

KCBS' Tim Ryan Reports:

California Governor Jerry Brown has proposed disbanding the state's redevelopment agencies and directing their money to schools and local services.

Critics maintain the city is going too far to help the team. Other cities have shifted redevelopment funds to different accounts or projects, but not given them to private groups.
