Narsai David Wine Review: Rock Wren Wine
(KCBS) - KCBS Food and Wine Editor Narsai David reviews a Syrah from a brand new winery in Solano County.
2007 Rock Wren Syrah
Solano County, Green Valley
Deep, rich crimson, purple color with a seductive aroma of ripe blackberries and a kind of forest floor earthiness. What a lovely mouthful of wine. Lots of fruit - certainly this is a fruit forward wine, lush on the palate. Plenty of acidity for balance, and yes, balance also requires tannins. Soft, supple tannins give that balance. Only 300 cases were made at a tiny, two-acre vineyard, tended totally by its owner Dennis De Romenico. That means the priming and the weeding and the thinning and irrigating, and of course the tractor work. A classic commitment to the grapes from the field to the bottle. An impressive Syrah at a really fine price. $24.00.
